KCW February 2016

To wrap up the last Kids' Clothes Week, somewhat less productive than the previous ones that I took part in, I have, apart from the polka dot skirt, two more things to show:

First, another skirt for Petite Mademoiselle -

- made in a lovely thin, turquoise baby cord with flowers, and a ribbon just above the hem:

I kept it very simple, just a gathered skirt, the fabric being quite attention-catching in itself :-) I have some left and think I will make a little dress with it; something with a simple cut, too, maybe a pinnafore dress..? I really like those colours on her :-)

The next, and last thing made this week is a slightly different kettle of fish, an idea stuck in my head for some time now; it was not, strictly speaking, a KCW project, since those are meant to be children's garments. However, I couldn't concentrate on any garments while this idea was running through my head, so I just went ahead with it; besides, this KCW's topic being toys, it seemed quite appropriate :-)

.. à temps pour Kids Clothes Week!
J'ai été absente pendant longtemps.. alors s'il y en a encore qui me lisent.. ? désolée! Et pourtant, je n'ai pas arrêté de coudre, au contraire! J'ai un bon stock à vous montrer :-D mais je n'aime pas les photos sous lumière artificielle, surtout que ma modèle principale bouge de plus en plus rapidement :-)
Et puis, ça fait un moment que je pense à un nouveau espace, mais comme je suis une quiche pas une pro du web design, et que j'ai pas le temps de dormir peu de temps.. Disons qu'on restera encore un petit moment ici. C'est bien douillet ici, non? :-)
Mais comme je disais, le KCW est là! Le thème est TOYS.. Bon je crois que je vais interpréter ça de ma manière, et plutôt librement; bref, voici ma première contribution, qui a, d'ailleurs, fait son chemin jusqu'au blog de KCW (oui! Oui! Je suis sur le blog, enfin ma jupette est sur le blog, le premier jour..!!!)

Et sur la Petite Mademoiselle (je fonds):

Ma petite puce est grande (de 82 cm), elle porte des jupes!!! Je m'en vais direct lui en fabriquer d'autres. Ah et puis KCW; du coup je retourne à mes projets, et je vous laisse avec ceci:

P.S. Je vais probablement passer tout mon temps à coudre cette semaine; je ferais un résumé du KCW après. KCW Days 3-5: the Ocean Dress

- because the colors remind me of the deep blue and the turquoise of the ocean, with a little beige the colour of sand.. :-)
This dress took me longer than I expected - but I was sewing under difficult circumstances, which is my excuse for the totally unnecessary, silly mistakes I made in the process. One of them remains as I just couldn't bring myself to unpick the whole thing and decided it would be an interesting original feature (and I actually wonder if anyone who doesn't sew will ever notice it :-P) I also massacred the first buttonhole, though it only shows when you're trying to button it - it's so tiny I had trouble finding the
right buttons!

But now it's done and, despite everything, it's really really pretty. I cut it in the softest flannel fabric, the bodice placed diagonally which makes for a rather pleasing optical effect. The binding is cut from the same fabric, which turned out to have been a rather lucky move (I hesitated, because I hate making my own binding - using the store bought one is soooo much faster - but usually also less pretty, so..). It's size 12 months and fits perfectly. The pattern is from Les Intemporels pour bébés, which I've already made in size 6 months, so no surprises there. On the whole, a resounding success :-D

BTW, you may have noticed I changed the heading of my blog - it's a picture we took for yesterday's Fashion Revolution Day, where we are all dressed in clothes I made (well, except for the socks and my underwear, hum). I like it very much and I think it represents my sewing better than the previous picture :-)
And now for my last KCW project..!

KCW Day 2: Safari Pants

Baby has something like 5 or 6 pairs of leggings in her wardrobe.. but a little girl can never have enough leggings :-) I don't know, there's just something about chubby little legs in leggings :-))) so I made another pair in this stretchy wax print fabric, that makes me think of Africa, hot sun, and lions (lions? yes, lions! go figure :-) there:

I think they're kind of cool.. I made them pretty loose for leggings, I like the look better on a baby. And they're quite long too, so she can wear them well into next autumn, I hope!

 That's little miss, sitting up all on her own now, and, recently, standing up, too!

 I'm having trouble to squeeze in regular sewing this week as I'm mostly alone with the kids, but hope to make a couple more things.. so see you soon! (honestly, this KCW idea is genius, genius! it really makes you make the time for sewing, you know? out of thin air, at times.. :-/)

KCW Day 1: the Fox T-shirt

I've had this lovely medium-stretch jersey in my stash for about a year now, originally bought (a leftover for sale) to make pyjamas for my little boy but soon realized it was too small for that.. but we both loved the print, and when I saw the theme for this KCW, I knew it was time to take it out!
So first, a somewhat gloomy picture of the finished T-shirt, taken at night - I can't resist to take the picture the moment I finish the garment, but seeing as I usually sew in the evenings..:-/

And then some pics taken this morning in much better light, Petit Beau Gosse delighted to find a new T-shirt (full of foxes! yay!) waiting for him to wear :-)

Incidentally, I totally realize I have been blessed with a wonderful child that not only relishes the fact that I actually make clothes for him (he likes to watch me work and would also like to learn to sew..!! I guess I should make hay before the gender stereotypes kick in!) but will even pose for me in the said clothes in the morning before setting off for the maternelle.. :-o
We don't call him Petit Beau Gosse for nothing, after all :-)

Oh, the pattern is a long-sleeved Tee from Ottobre, but I can't seem to find the issue it comes from and didn't note down the name.. but just a basic T-shirt, really. Will add the name if I find it.

KCW printemps 2015

Ça y est, je me suis inscrite à la prochaine saison de KCW! On commence le 20 avril, et le thème c'est Wild Things! Je vais m'y tenir, peut-être..ou je vais peut-être aussi finir des projets qui attendent; j'ai déjà quelques idées, on verra pour la réalisation, et le temps nécessaire. À bientôt!

KCW Days 6-7

Et voilà, Kids' Clothes Week est fini! Les derniers deux jours j'ai fait du simple: un pantalon ample pour Petit Beau Gosse, pour pas qu'il se sente négligé, et un bonnet rouge ultra simple qui va avec:

J'ai recoupé un vieux pantalon à moi que j'aimais d'amour mais qui commencait à se déchirer par-ci par-là; j'aime beaucoup le tissu ultra doux et les couleurs, et PBG aime aussi son 'nouveau' pantalon rose :-) Le bonnet est juste un ovale coupé dans un vieux pull; une autre partie de son bord a été utilisé pour ceci:

Je ne pouvais pas m'en empecher :-)

Le bilan du Kids' Clothes Week? Une super expérience, tres motivant, ca m'a poussé à me remettre à la couture et j'en suis ravie! Sinon j'ai encore plein d'habilles à recycler, et plein d'idées et ca tombe bien, étant en congé parental je suis contente de pouvoir habiller mes enfants sans dépenser de l'argent, c'est rapide (enfin ca depend aussi du projet, mais souvent on peut se faciliter la vie en découpant des parties du vetement dejà bordées par example) et tres créatif, je trouve. 

Et puis, mon défi personnel pendant cette semaine était de dessiner tous les patrons utilisés moi meme, et ca a marché, aucun probleme grave rencontre; le patron du manteau est encore a peaufiner, mais il est fonctionnel; ca faisait un moment que j'avais envie de me lancer, et quelle meilleure occasion que celle-ci? Meme pas peur de couper dans un pull recyclé :-) Je vais surement participer à la prochaine version du KCW!

KCW Days 4-5

Aujourd'hui c.est un projet un peu plus compliqué- un manteau pour la Petite Mademoiselle, a.k.a. Bébé :-) en fait, je n'avais jamais pensé à recycler mes vieux pulls jusqu'à ce que je tombe sur ceci: http://www.deliacreates.com/baby-dress-coat/

Et là, c'était une révélation! J'ai tout de suite pensé à mon pull en laine fine rouge, que je ne portais plus mais que je trouvais trop bon à jeter; la Petite Demoiselle avait un besoin urgent d'un manteau pour cette fin d'hiver/printemps, et il me semble que le rouge sera sa couleur.. Bref, il fallait transformer ce pull en manteau! En plus le KCW était une occasion idéale de m'essayer au patronage de quelque chose un petit peu plus compliqué que des pantalons et des leggings!

Et en voilà le résultat (j'en suis plutot contente, ca se voit:-):

Comme je disais, je suis contente du resultat, ne pas devoir m'occuper des bords était bien agréable..la seule chose, c'est que j'aurais voulu que le bas du manteau soit plus ample, mais comme c'était du recyclage j'étais limitée par l'ampleur de mon pull (décidémment, je suis trop mince!:-D). N tout cas j'aime beaucoup ce style de manteau, je lui en ferai d'autres, recyclés ou pas.

KCW Day 3

Deux vieux pulls et un joli body devenu trop court, et voilà une tenue assortie pour ma petite princesse:

J'aime vraiment beaucoup l'idée de upcycling; ca va vite, puisque on peut se servir des bords des vetements déjà faits, ca donne des jolies finitions et des matieres pas normalement trouvées aux magasins de tissus.

J'ai commencé à découper un autre pull pour en faire un petit manteau pour Bébé.. Et maintenant il faudrait que je pense à mon garcon aussi!

Sinon ce matin Bébé s'est réveillée a 5.30 convaincue qu'il était l'heure de se lever..alors j'ai pas pu résister et j'ai lui ai mis sa nouvelle tenue :-) (sauf la robe - à 5.30 quand meme..)

C'est quand meme admirable comment elle est en forme a cette heure là, hein? Elle n'a pas hérité ca de moi, c'est sûr (ni de son pere d'ailleurs :-o ).

KCW Day 2

Today it's an old tank top upcycled as baby leggings:

I decided to use the front with flowers for one leg and the plain gray back for the other rather than stick to the flowers-front-plain-back distribution of the original garment, and I really like the assymetrical result:

Yes, it's all about chubby little feet here:-)

I really like upcycling my old clothes for the kids; I only deplore the fact that I used to wear such skimpy clothes in my youth;-) all finishing above my belly button (to show off my piercing!), which means they are already almost too short for my -sturdy, truth be told- 7-month old girl.. The belt for these leggings had to be made from another -skimpy- tank, and even so I suspect that, come spring, they will be more like capri pants..I do like the combination of grey and light pink though.

Next a dress to go with these!

KCW Day 1

(Post in English)

Kid's Clothes Week has begun and I am sooo excited to get back to sewing regularly, after several months of baby-imposed rest.. So, on Day 1, I cut up an old sweater I never wear anymore but had kept in my closet because I love the colour and the stripes. Now it comes in handy: Baby needs new pants, she has nearly outgrown most of her clothes..and the rest might make a cute hat for Petit Beau Gosse - AND they will have a matching outfit!:-)

The sleeves are just the right length for Baby's chubby feet:-) no need to hem, a pair of pants whipped up in about half an hour! 

And a hat for my boy, with the rib from another sweater:
